IFBB Women's Physique Classes di 16-nov-10 20:09 (permalink)

There is alot of speculation about the IFBB's move toward removing the women's physique classes from competitions both at Amateurs and Pro level. How true is this? As someone on the executive committee can you clarify anything?

Thanks

      NPC will introduce a new physique class to their competitions next year. All the other classes will remain tough.
      The new class is for women that don't want to look as ripped and muscular as the regular bodybuilding classes. Sort of 'back to the 80's' look. Like Cory Everson and Anja Langer wich i personnaly think is a good thing.

        The IFBB amateurs approved the bikini class, at the congress in Baku november 7, 2010,  but the proposal for the womens CBB or as they call it in the NPC, physique, is not approved yet. We like to take a look at the body/weight ratio again.

        The NPC is a national federation and any national federation (member of the IFBB) has the right to have its own classes and rules. Only when they compete in IFBB international competitions they have to keep the rules of the IFBB.

        When there is a physique or CBB class in the IFBB amateurs I will know as member of the executive council and womens commitee.

          Hi Juliette

          Thank you for your response..... good to know that consideration is being given to an additional classic bodybuilding class for the ladies...however there seems to be a thought that women's bodybuilding in the style of Iris Kyle, Yaxeni Oriquen, Heather Armbrust etc and the bigger amateur women will be finished and killed off when the new women's classic bodybuilding is approved. Is this being talked about seriously by the IFBB?

            Definitly not!

            That is why the IFBB consider a womens BB class for the not so muscular ladies so the bigger ladies can be as big they like.

            It is wrong to forget were you come from and the IFBB will never forget were they come from.

                ....and the rumour is that women's bodybuilding as we know it today is removed from the Olympia by 2011.

                In 2012 Woman's Physique will take over the reign's. 2012 will have Bikini, Fitness, Figure and Physique. Jim Manion and Weider understand that the sport of FBB has declined in popularity with attendances and entries. Physique will be the continuation of the "Cory Everson" years. All present FBBs will either retire or compete in the new division but will have to come in much smaller. 2011 will also be the last Arnold FBB contest. !. Of course some have been understandably against it, but THERE HAS BEEN A LOT OF SUPPORT IN FAVOR OF THE NEW DIVISION

                  Womans BB will always be in the IFBB period, the USA is not the IFBB amateurs.
                  We in the Netherlands can also have our own rules about every class, our own division, this is up to the national Federation.

                  Every Country in the IFBB have there own rules and divisions as long as they are within the rules of the IFBB.

                  But International as for example the WC or AC you have to follow the rules of the IFBB.

                  The Bikini will become Figure and the (BF) figure will become BB because the longer and the harder you train and diet you will have more muscle, but main rule rule is: never forget where you come from because when you train with weights you get muscle and the longer you train the more muscle you get.

                  When you forget where you come from you loose, big time.

                    I appreciate that the IFBB is primarily a business with a bottom line, but the thing is Juliette, this decision does not allow women to progress......we are now firmly in the 21st century and in one fell swoop the IFBB might as well have put women bodybuilders in a time machine and sent us back to the dark ages. We are being told by a predominantly male committee that women have to look a certain way, that 'big muscles are no longer acceptable because it does not sell'. Pro and amateur female bodybuilders are ALL being forced to retire because there will no longer be a competitive platform for them. This is sexism of the highest order!

                    Not only will these women no longer be able to compete which means a loss of earnings through sponsorships such as they are but for the Pro's also losses incurred through prize money and status. Now whilst bodybuilding per se for women is not going to make them wealthy the  business opportunities that come with the BB territory will also be affected.

                    A pitiful situation as litigation is, any female bodybuilder who had the time, the money and the energy will have a very strong case for a lawsuit against the IFBB on the grounds stated above.

                    We will just have to see how popular this decision will be amongst the fans and the competitors when it finally gets announced officially. With this being 'leaked' from the IFBB and not annouced from an official platform is from a Public Relations perspective a nightmare it leaves competitors feeling unsure, angry and betrayed by their federation.

                    To regain the respect of competitors and fans alike an official announcement should be made as soon as possible to put a halt to the rumour mill.

                      Question and answer about this new division by IFBB Ahtlete's representative Bob Chiccerillo on one of womens leading bodybuilding and fitness forum;

                      http://www.siouxcountry.com/showthread.php?t=14969

                      some quotes about the why of this new division;
                      It comes down to business, and dollars and sense. Supply and demand is the most basic of business, and as the demand goes up (Bikini div) the numbers increase, fan support, coverage, contracts, etc...
                      Demand goes down, it all dries up..cant force people to support what few have interest in. Extremes are a tough sell in ANY market, let alone ours which is a nitche, which makes FBB a nitche of a nitche...just by sheer numbers, it has been tough to keep sustained for some time now.

                        dit gaat nog heel spannend worden voor de vrouwen bodybuilding
                        maar als het algemeen beeld is dat er voor de hele grote vrouwen vanuit het publiek weinig aandacht is dan wordt het moeilijker en moeilijker om op dezelfde voet door te gaan, met grote shows, grote wedstrijden.

                            Nog effe een antwoord van Bob op de vraag van dames die nu bodybuilding doen en zouden willen switchen naar de nieuwe klasse;

                            In regards to those wanting to go the WPD route...I would say downsize and dont diet to extremes...as muscular size and freaky conditioning is not part of the criteria...

                            I would also advise to get a good second set of eyes to properly evaluate your transition, as BBers tend to have a skewed sense of what small and large is, whats soft and not, etc...I sense there will be girls who THINK they've come in much smaler and softer, but the reality is, the changes will be minimal..

                            I would also advise getting off any and all "supplements" that may lend to a look that wont be rewarded...

                            Women who insist that they'll have to "stop training all together" in order to be small enough, lose enough muscle, etc are fooling themselves...no such thing needs to take place and 99.9% can train as hard as ever and not be "too big" or too muscular for WP...

                            In regards to those FBB's who like the way they look, dont feel as though the WP is a good match for them, like the freaky look, etc....all the power to them and I encourage them to all follow their hearts...no one is forcing anyone to compete, or switch over to WP, or give up their ideals.

                            That said..

                            There also has to be a realization that it's a business. At the end of the day, and a sense of entitlement is not going to be enough to sustain and/ or justify a future.

                            I look at this as a huge opportunity to the many more women that wish to train, diet, enjoy the BB lifestyle, compete, etc...to do what they love and not feel as though they have to sacrifice their femininity, or take it to the extreme.

                            The needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few...

                              Het klinkt een stuk gezonder.
                              Kala is en blijft een eigenaardig ding

                                dit gaat nog heel spannend worden voor de vrouwen bodybuilding
                                maar als het algemeen beeld is dat er voor de hele grote vrouwen vanuit het publiek weinig aandacht is dan wordt het moeilijker en moeilijker om op dezelfde voet door te gaan, met grote shows, grote wedstrijden.
                                ik ben benieuwd
